CISTERNA DE ALFARA

- DESCRIPTION
Due to the unhealthy waters that supplied the town, on August 23, 1787, the Alfara City Council requested in writing to the Count of Floridablanca, in the government of the nation, the sale of 40 bushels of wheat in order to build a cistern. The request was granted. The free work of the town was counted on.
On March 26, 1788, the first stone was laid in the cistern and on December 17 of the same year, at three in the afternoon, the first water was provided.
The water tank has a capacity of 25,000 liters.
It remained open until approximately 1970, to offer fresh and clean water in the summer.
The control for its use was as follows: the key went to a house every day; the woman opened it in the morning, cleaned it, spent the day there, and closed it in the afternoon. When summer ended, the house where the key was left was in charge of opening the door on the first day of the following summer.
