LA CASA PALACIO

- DESCRIPTION
It is located in the town centre, opposite the bridge that crosses the Palància River and close to the parish church.
It is a solid fortified manor house, although it was probably built on older buildings, as obvious Roman remains have been found. It was almost certainly started under the lordship of Jofré de Blanes, at the end of the 14th century, and the monarch Martín el Humano stayed there in 1401. Although it has undergone numerous subsequent reforms, it is the best preserved Gothic palace in the region, and in it you can clearly see the mixture of palatial and defensive elements, characteristic of the manor houses of that period. Since 1897 it has belonged to the Baixauli family.
The building consists of a semi-basement - with a great profusion of arches - and three floors. Access is through a door with a semicircular arch formed by wide voussoirs, and above it are the only two windows on the ground floor. Above there is a first crenellated body and above it, set back, the noble floor as evidenced by the rich pointed windows. The towers, square and crenellated, rise above the whole although they have been joined by a last body of later construction, or at least deeply modified.
