LA ERMITA DEL GARBÍ

- DESCRIPTION

The origin of the hermitage of Santa Creu del Garbí is related to the placing of a cross on that mountain on March 19, 1787. The history of that devotion has its origin in the desire of the neighbour Francesc Galvis to erect a cross on the mountain of the town. Galbis commissioned the carpenter Josep Sacanelles to build a cross with special characteristics to which the friar Digo J. de Cádiz ordered that a “lignum crucis” be placed. When this work was finished, they took it to Estivella, where, with the help of the men of the town, they set out to find the appropriate mountain. On March 19, 1787, the cross was erected on Garbí.

From this moment on, its devotion was increasingly prominent, for this reason, the town, in 1804, built a hermitage on the place where the Santa Creu was, composed of a roof supported by four arches.
