TORRE DEFENSIVA

- DESCRIPTION
According to a tile on its façade, the construction of the tower was completed in 1580. Initially, it is believed that it was used as a watchtower due to the raids of pirate and Moorish groups who landed to plunder the towns near the coast.
It has a rectangular floor plan and is about 25 metres high, made of rodeno masonry with well-carved reinforcements in the corners. It has three different bodies, with walls of different thicknesses as it narrows as it increases in height to offer greater stability to the whole construction.
The first body or base, has the shape of a truncated pyramid and adapts to the natural slope. The second, 15 metres high and in the shape of an 8 x 6 metre prism, is the main ºblock of the tower and contains the three floors.
The third body was in a very deteriorated state before the restoration, and it contained a defensive gallery, which was wider than the second block and was supported by 32 modules.
The tower was restored during the years 1992-93, and its original three-story structure was preserved inside, covering the third block corresponding to the initial defensive gallery.
Currently, this building housed the municipal library, since its restoration.
